The Story of the Siren

I have recently read a short story for the sleep podcast, Listen to Sleep. I was very happy when Erik, the host of the podcast asked me, and it did not take long for me to select a piece by E. M. Forster, one of my favourite writers of all time. Just some time before he reached out to me, did I release my previous single, ‘Dancing to Sirens’, therefore the fact that the writing had the word siren in it, amused me. Even if it is about actual sirens, whereas my song is about the warning sound signals. But if you prefer, it can also be about the mythical creatures, although the lyrics would make less sense.

So I selected this nine page long story originally released by Leonard & Virginia Woolf in 1920 and started working on the recording. I have quite some experience recording my own voice. I have been doing it for a few decades now, but I was really surprised to find out how difficult it was to work with spoken word. It did take me quite a while, weeks, even, before I finally ended up with a version I was brave enough to send to Erik. It is, however, now out there, floating in the spheres of the internet, also for you to listen. I hope you enjoy it, or at the very least, fall asleep to it.
